More Than A Run: 2,000 Malaysians United In Shah Alam To Raise Funds For Palestine
Shah Alam, 11 May 2025 – In an extraordinary show of solidarity and compassion, over 2,000 Malaysians gathered at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam to participate in the Run for Palestine, a powerful initiative that combined fitness, awareness, and humanitarian action. The event was held in conjunction with the Shah Alam Hari Tanpa Kenderaan (SAHTK) initiative, organized by Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam (MBSA).
The run was co-organized by Iltizam Relief Society, a humanitarian NGO, and Absolute Wellness, a wellness-focused event company. The goal was simple yet impactful: to raise funds and awareness for the people of Palestine through an inclusive and community-driven event.
Participants, dressed in colorful running gear and waving Palestinian flags, not only ran for their health but also ran with purpose — donating towards aid projects in Gaza as part of their registration and participation. The event was part of a wider programme that included:
Shah Alam Car-Free Day Fun Run & Fun Walk
WSSFM Fun Ride
Pink Kaler Fun Run by Rakan Muda
Knowledge-sharing sessions by AADK
Mother’s Day flower giveaways
The event was officiated by YBhg. Dato’ Haji Mohd Fauzi bin Haji Mohd Yatim, Datuk Bandar Shah Alam. Among the notable attendees were:
YB. Tuan Haji Azli bin Yusof, Member of Parliament for Shah Alam
YBrs. YM Tengku Ahmad bin Tengku Kasim, MBSA Council Member
YBrs. Tuan Haji Madiyan bin Haji Baweh, Acting Deputy Mayor of MBSA
YBrs. Puan Azura Bt Sarbin, Director of the Selangor State Youth & Sports Department
YBrs. Encik Ghazali Bin Abdul Rahman, Head of AADK Gombak
YBrs. Encik Mohd Shah Sapiei, CEO of Iltizam Relief Society
Community Collaboration At Its Best
This initiative would not have been possible without the incredible support from partners and sponsors, including: KWC Fashion Wholesale, Nutrifres Food & Beverages
OilyLicious, YLEO: Young Living Essential Oils, Media supporters, volunteers, and public figures like Sharifah Shahira, who helped amplify the cause.
A Run That Goes Beyond the Finish Line
The Run for Palestine successfully raised funds and awareness while bringing together diverse communities in a shared mission of peace, empathy, and action. Beyond the joy and excitement of the run, this event sparked conversations, educated the public, and most importantly, mobilized support for a humanitarian cause in a meaningful and accessible way.
Looking Ahead
The organizers expressed hope that this would be the first of many such efforts. “We believe in the power of community. When people come together — whether to run, to learn, or to help — real change happens,” said Iltizam CEO Mohd Shah Sapiei.
If you or your organization is interested in collaborating, sponsoring, or co-hosting future events, Iltizam Relief Society welcomes you. Together, we can continue creating spaces where compassion meets action, and where every step taken brings hope to someone in need.
