Support on-the-ground engagement with fishing communities and field operations in project sites across Peninsular Malaysia under the Cetacean Bycatch Mitigation Project.
Responsibilities
Develop and foster relationships with fishing communities and local stakeholders, promoting effective communication, data collection, and collaboration in project sites in Peninsular Malaysia
Coordinate and facilitate field activities, including pinger observation surveys and fish catch yield surveys
Respond promptly to cetacean bycatch and stranding incidents
Collaborate closely with other staff members on various aspects
Requirements
Degree in Marine Science, Environmental Science or related fields (background/experience in fisheries science and/or social science preferred)
Prior experience in community engagement or field-based scientific work is highly desirable
High proficiency in Hokkien, Mandarin, and Bahasa Melayu is an advantage
Comfortable working closely with fishing communities
Valid driver’s license
Organised, self-motivated, disciplined, independent, resourceful, with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Willing to travel and work on weekends/public holidays when needed
