Three Tunku Scholars Selected As 2027 Morehead-Cain Global Fellows

Yayasan Tunku Abdul Rahman (YTAR) has announced that three of its scholars — Ying Shan Chan (Chloe), Sidney Chong and Jun Feng Ng (Jeff) — have been selected as 2027 Morehead-Cain Global Fellows, joining a cohort of 12 student leaders from Brazil, India, Nigeria and Turkey for a fully funded year at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

As the Malaysian nominating partner for the Morehead-Cain Global Fellows Program, YTAR nominated a list of young Malaysians for consideration. From candidates nominated by partners around the world, 50 were shortlisted globally and invited to take part in a rigorous global selection programme. The three Tunku Scholars were chosen for their academic achievements and leadership impact within their universities and communities.

Chloe, a Towards Inclusion and Equity (TIE) Fund - Tunku Scholar, is a law major at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Vice President of Academic Activities at the Asian Law Students' Association, where she coordinates academic programming across 18 national chapters. Sidney, also a TIE Fund - Tunku Scholar, is a biotechnology major at Universiti Malaya and Chief Strategy Officer of Insective Lab, a student-led social enterprise converting food waste into sustainable livestock feed. Jeff, an Amalan Setar - Tunku Scholar, is a finance major at Universiti Malaya, president of the Association of Malaysian Economics Undergraduates and portfolio manager at the Next Generation Investment Office.

The Morehead-Cain Global Fellows Program brings student leaders from around the world to UNC–Chapel Hill for a year of academic study, leadership development and cross-cultural exchange, including research, personal coaching and funded travel within the United States.

Since its establishment in 1966, YTAR has empowered more than 12,000 Malaysian youths through RM96.6 million in scholarships, financial assistance and leadership development programmes. The Foundation is marking its 60th anniversary under the theme "60 Years of Building Leaders for Malaysia".
