MareCet is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join the team as a Programme Officer. The role supports the Programme & Operations Manager in coordinating conservation-based programmes, assisting with marine fieldwork, and supporting research, outreach, community engagement, and administrative activities.
Responsibilities
• Support coordination and administration of MareCet’s conservation programmes, particularly in northwestern Peninsular Malaysia
• Assist with planning and facilitating boat-based cetacean research surveys in Langkawi, including logistics coordination
• Support field data collection, data management, and post-survey organization
• Support stakeholder and community engagement activities for marine conservation and responsible tourism
• Assist with school and community-based outreach initiatives in Langkawi, Perlis and Kedah
• Support programme reporting, activity tracking, and preparation of basic financial and administrative documentation
• Work closely with the Programme & Operations Manager and team members to support programme implementation and organisational needs
Requirements
• Malaysian citizen with a valid driver’s license
• Preferably possesses a degree in Marine Science or other environment-related fields
• Organised, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and resourceful
• Physically fit and able to carry out marine fieldwork
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Bahasa Melayu (Mandarin is an advantage)
• Enjoys interacting with people and comfortable working with children and youth
• Able to work/travel independently and follow instructions
• Willing to travel outstation regularly and work weekends/public holidays when needed (replacement leave given)
