Gross Salary: RM4,000 – RM6,000 (open to negotiation depending on experience)
Core Responsibilities: Under the guidance and supervision of the CIJ Executive Director, the Programme Officer performs the following tasks and has the following responsibilities:
• Provide strategic and technical input and coordinate the effective planning,
implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the related media freedom and strengthening activities;
• Monitor and assess the media landscape periodically, and develop strategic responses, including initiating research, drafting policy and position papers and executing advocacy campaigns on promoting media freedom;
• Initiate and foster strategic relations with the media and government agencies to achieve relevant advocacy objectives, as well as manage and mitigate the challenges that arise in the process;
• Cultivate strategic partnerships and facilitate the engagement and participation of parliamentarians, media, civil society and other stakeholders in the media strengthening initiatives;
• Advise and support CIJ on collaborations, progress management and, where relevant, additional needs in relation to the implementation of media strengthening programmes, campaigns and follow-up activities, if required;
• Facilitate the development of content and manage the team contracted to develop the ICT tools and website development related to media strengthening and media freedom.
• Provide regular updates and status reports on projects and events, including relevant analyses, statistics and recommendations for improvement, for the purposes of website archiving, social media branding, donor reporting and as requested.
• Ensure that the related activities are implemented in a timely manner, and the funds are used in accordance with the budget and reports are drafted and delivered as required;
• Facilitate the engagement and participation of civil society and other stakeholders in the activities related to media freedom;
• Represent CIJ at relevant events or meetings related to media strengthening and CIJ’s other focus areas;
• Support the implementation of CIJ’s other programmes as and when necessary; and
• Perform other tasks as required.
