Buku Jalanan Chow Kit (BJCK) is looking for passionate education and social impact enthusiasts to work with children and communities. Through our Alternative Learning Centre (ALC) and community programmes, we work alongside children and families in Chow Kit to expand access to education, strengthen communities, and create pathways towards a better future.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver daily lower primary lessons at the Alternative Learning Centre, covering literacy, numeracy and life skills.
- Adapt materials, pace and teaching methods for learners with mixed abilities and interrupted schooling.
- Track each child’s progress, keep simple records, and share updates with the education team and families.
- Create a safe, inclusive classroom where children feel supported and build confidence.
- Work alongside volunteers, social workers and community programme staff to support children holistically.
- Take part in teacher training, lesson planning sessions and centre-wide activities.
Requirements
- A genuine interest in education, child development and community work.
- Diploma or degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Sciences or a related field; experience teaching young children is an advantage.
- Able to teach in both Bahasa Malaysia and English.
- Patient, empathetic and comfortable working with children from marginalised communities.
- Strong classroom management, communication and teamwork skills.
- Willing to work on-site in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur on a full-time basis.
