AVPN, the largest network of social investors active in Asia, today announced the upcoming AVPN Global Conference 2023, Asia’s largest social investment conference that gathers global and Asian investors, funders, philanthropists, policymakers, as well as Limited Partners, marking the first time that this annual conference is held in Malaysia.
Taking place in Kuala Lumpur from 20 to 22 June 2023 and co-hosted with Yayasan Hasanah, the foundation of Malaysian sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional, the AVPN Global Conference focuses on putting Asian voices at the forefront of global discourse. Titled Global Challenges: Asian Solutions, the conference will focus on Asian leadership to address urgent issues in gender, climate, healthcare and livelihoods through collaboration and community ownership.
Also happening in parallel is The Hasanah Forum (THF), Malaysia’s premier social impact conference organised by Yayasan Hasanah. In its debut in 2021, THF urged the social impact sector to reconsider what it means to do good - from seeing it as an act of charity, to an act that champions justice for the people. This year, themed “Fostering Justice-Based Philanthropy: Shifting the Narrative to Action”, this second edition of THF will build on those discussions to drive real-world action.
AVPN, with more than 600 diverse members across 33 markets, enables collaborations between policy makers, family offices, foundations and the private sector, bringing to bear the field needs, knowledge, and policy environment, and to increase the impact and flow of capital deployed towards closing the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) gaps in Asia.
Taking place alongside the AVPN Global Conference 2023 is The Hasanah Forum, the flagship event of Yayasan Hasanah, which aims to provide delegates with a deeper understanding of the Malaysian social investment context and its position within the wider Asia region.
The three-day AVPN Global Conference 2023 expects to see over 1,000 attendees from more than 40 markets convening and networking across the various plenaries and sessions, impact live showcases, workshops and masterclasses, and many other activities. This year’s attendees can expect to hear from an array of industry experts, such as Ajay Piramal (Piramal Foundation), Cathy Marsh (Asian Development Bank), Dato’ Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir (Khazanah Nasional Berhad), Eric Rice (BlackRock), Gabriel Leung (Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust), Kathleen Chew (YTL Foundation), Pamela Alexander (KKR), Rob Rosen (Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation), Stephen Lee (Nuveen & TIAA Investments), and many others.
Meanwhile, The Hasanah Forum aims to bring forward key best practices and learnings in the region to Malaysia via a knowledge exchange, catalysing action-oriented conversations and nurturing thought leadership amidst the changing face of philanthropy towards real-world action. This year, attendees would hear best practices from leaders and doers in the social impact ecosystem; across civil society organisations, social enterprises, corporations, policymakers and academia, such as Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican (Ministry of Finance, Malaysia), Ng Boon Heong (Temasek Foundation), Anshu Gupta (Goonj), Cliff Prior (Global Steering Group for Impact Investing), Louise Pulford (Social Innovation Exchange, SIX), Dato’ Seri Paduka Maimunah Mohd Sharif (UN-Habitat), Ganesh Muren (Saora Industries), Prof. Tan Sri Dr. Jemilah Mahmood (Sunway University Malaysia), Matthew Smith (CEO, Fortify Rights), Rashvin Pal Singh (Biji-biji Initiative), Dr. Ruth Shapiro (Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society, CAPS), Pritha Venkatachalam (The Bridgespan Group), Dr. J. Satrijo Tanudjojo (Tanoto Foundation).
