Through this, Maxis educated and inspired SMEs to grow and scale their businesses digitally while alleviating their financial burden. Partnering with AmBank, BSN, MDEC and the Malaysian Retail Chain Association (MRCA), Maxis hosted nationwide networking sessions to connect local businesses. Over 500 local entrepreneurs were inspired by the journeys of their peers, and to explore solutions on digital marketing, electronic point-of-sale, remote working and more.
2Maxis Scholarship Programme⬇️N/A19 scholarshipsN/A19 scholarsIn the year 2022, an extensive review process was conducted, evaluating numerous applications, and as a result, 19 exceptional students were selected as recipients of scholarships. These students demonstrated remarkable accomplishments both academically and in co-curricular activities, encompassing three distinct scholarship categories. Among these, 5 individuals were chosen for the Maxis Tech Scholarship, 7 were granted the Maxis Young Leaders Scholarship, and another 7 were recipients of the Maxis Women in Tech Scholarship.
3eKelas⬆️N/AEducational programmeN/A73,000 studentsIn its seventh year, Maxis continued to support students nationwide with free access to exciting digital learning content and engagement activities. students are exposed to experiential learning through a combination of live tutorials,group learning , competitions and digital content via the eKelas portal and app. eKelas today provides a complete digital learning experience, including opportunities for students to take part in annual campaigns like English and STEM competitions as well as the opportunity to apply for the Anugerah Gemilang student grant. To date, there are over 73,000 students from 2,184 schools, registered on the eKelas portal, ensuring that they receive access to digital learning opportunities
4eKelas⬆️N/AEducational programmeN/A5,000 studentsThis programme has been recognised by the Ministry of Education under its Highly Immersive Programme (HIP), where eKelas students who participate in the HIP StoryFest English Competition can collect co-curricular marks which are included in their school certificate. The Competition aims to build students’ confidence in speaking English and encourage the learning of English through fun activities. In 2022, more than 5,000 students participated in the HIP StoryFest Competition, over 50% more than the previous year.
5eKelas Usahawan⬆️N/ATraining programme worth RM1.31MN/A1,700 entrepreneursThis initiative continues to attract strong interest from micro-SMEs, particularly women entrepreneurs, in adopting digitalisation for their businesses. In facilitating dedicated workshops, eKelas Usahawan collaborates with government agencies and NGOs to attract and help more entrepreneurs and SMEs to apply basic digital marketing knowledge and tools to their respective businesses. In 2022, the programme trained a total of 1,700 entrepreneurs.
6Festive Charity⬆️N/AFood aid worth RM64kN/ACommunityIn 2022, Maxis reached out to various communities – from senior citizens and B40 individuals and families to students and single mothers – in conjunction with the four festive seasons of Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Deepavali and Christmas. These communities benefitted from over 2,400 boxes of food aid and essential items, food vouchers, refurbished desktops and back-to-school packs that were contributed worth RM64,000.
7Humanitarian Relief Initiatives⬆️N/ADisaster relief aid worth RM0.81MN/ADisaster VictimsIn anticipation of the monsoon season spanning from November 2022 to March 2023 and following Maxis' standard operating procedures, Maxis undertook comprehensive flood preparation and mitigation measures. These initiatives encompassed several strategies: Maxis strategically stationed four boats in regions prone to flooding, including Pahang, Johor, and Penang. Maxis conducted flood mitigation simulation exercises in collaboration with relevant authorities to enhance their readiness. To ensure operational continuity, all critical tower sites were equipped with power generators. Maxis took proactive steps by raising and hardening 49 sites situated in historically flood-prone areas. Collaborating with the Regulator, MCMC, Maxis established single channel usage for notifying State MCMC offices about flood-related outages. Maxis established a Virtual Command Center involving key stakeholders, fostering effective communication. Additionally, Maxis identified personnel in flood-prone zones and ensured adequate resources to sustain normal business operations. To accommodate potential traffic surges during the flood period, Maxis proactively upgraded radios. The cumulative effort of these initiatives amounted to a substantial contribution of RM 819,000.
8Employee Volunteering HoursN/ARM64,4741,355 hoursPublicIn the reporting period, Maxis employees collectively contributed 1,355 volunteering hours, which translated to a volunteering value of RM 64,474. This value was calculated using the formula: Volunteering value equals the Average Hourly Rate multiplied by the Total Maxis Volunteering Hours.

Beneficiaries of Maxis Berhad

Maxis Berhad increased their community investment in FY2022 from RM0.43 million to RM3.93 million. The majority focus areas from the company’s giving are in Education. 57.1% of Maxis’ giving initiatives were contributed towards education including multiple training and educational programmes to help SMEs on their digitilisation journey. The main beneficiaries that were positively impacted by the Group’s giving initiatives were the Youth. A large portion of givings benefited the Youth as many initiatives were for students such as their eKelas programme and scholarships. The employee volunteer hours at Maxis Berhad has also increased from 1,056 hours to 1,355 hours in the current financial year.
