Seeking a passionate and dedicated Field Assistant to join the team in supporting ecological research and conservation activities at Desaru Coast. This role involves outdoor fieldwork, biodiversity monitoring, vegetation mapping, data management, and assisting with conservation projects.
The successful candidate will work closely with the team on field surveys, ecological monitoring, research documentation, and communication materials to support ongoing environmental initiatives.
Responsibilities
Conduct fieldwork including biodiversity surveys, vegetation mapping, tree planting, forest restoration activities, and camera trapping.
Support the planning, preparation, and logistics of field activities.
Process and catalogue images from camera traps and other field data sources.
Perform data entry and maintain accurate research databases.
Assist in organising and presenting research content and data using Microsoft Office Suite.
Prepare progress updates, field notes, and project reports.
Maintain accurate monthly project budget records.
Assist in preparing content for social media and web platforms.
Work flexible hours, including occasional weekends and early mornings or nights when required.
Requirements
Malaysian citizen or PR holder with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related fields; and/or Nature Guide Certification (MOTAC) with relevant work experience.
Strong interest in nature, conservation, and wildlife.
Proficient in spoken and written English and Bahasa Malaysia.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other design software.
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions, including early mornings and some nights.
Experience in field data collection and basic ecological monitoring techniques is preferred.
Valid car driving licence and confident driving ability.
Own transport required as there is no convenient public transport available on site.
Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team.
