The net profit of Malayan Banking Berhad increased in FY2023 to RM9.34 billion from RM8.23 billion during the previous financial year.

The year on year net profit growth at Malayan Banking Berhad is at 13.54%

The Group’s dividend payout ratio for the FY2023 was at a substantial 77.40% which amounts to RM7.24 billion.

The Group did not specify the total amount of contribution made towards Zakat during FY2023.

Total cash contributions made by Maybank during FY2023, was RM42.54 million. This contribution was made through community investment.

Since its approval by BNM in August 2023, it targets to benefit 665 female microentrepreneurs and gig-workers, empowering them to enhance their financial management skills and business acumen for the purpose of generating sustainable income.

The programme led to the opening of Genba Bakery café in Nilai Impian, Negeri Sembilan. This programme also complements HALAL initiatives and the halal food industry as a whole. In 2023, 80 students from the asnaf community were enrolled in the programme.

Following the success of its initial project in Semenyih, the programme has expanded to four new sites in Selangor and Kelantan. Maybank Islamic allocated a zakat fund of RM260,000 for the second phase, benefitting over 100 participants.
11Women Entrepreneurship ProgrammeN/AN/AN/A50 women entrepreneursThis comprehensive programme comprised 12 learning modules, delivered through six face-to-face sessions strategically held at various locations. Over the course of 12 months, from November 2022 to December 2023, a total of 50 female Asnaf entrepreneurs successfully gained valuable insights and skills in branding and digital marketing.
12Reach Independence & Sustainable Entrepreneurship (R.I.S.E Programme)RM1.47MN/AN/A43,711 impactedR.I.S.E., a programme aimed at empowering PWDs and marginalised small business owners across ASEAN, offers training, coaching and mentoring to enhance entrepreneurial skills and livelihoods. The CEO of Etiqa General Takaful Berhad (EGTB), together with 30 volunteers from Etiqa, participated in a diving expedition to help restore and propagate new corals in Kampung Salang.

These volunteerism activities may be part of their Group-led initiatives or come from their own personal passions via the Maybank Group Self-Led Sustainability and Volunteerism Policy, an extension of Cahaya Kasih. These engagements not only benefit the community but also significantly enrich the personal lives of Maybank employees with a participation rate of 30,155 employees logging a total of 142,319 volunteer hours.

Change. Thrive." A total of 96 initiatives were undertaken, including the installation of solar panels in 70 Orang Asli households in Tapah, Perak, and Raub, Pahang by employees from Group Insurance & Takaful, providing renewable energy to these communities. Additionally, 550 Maybankers from Pahang, Kelantan, and Terengganu planted 2,000 mangrove trees at Pusat Informasi Fireflies in Cherating, Pahang, to mitigate climate change and support the mangrove ecosystem. In Singapore, 1,147 Maybankers participated in a beach cleanup at Pasir Ris Park and Beach, collecting 500kg of waste, including marine trash and microplastics. Overall, 17,420 Maybankers contributed 84,783 volunteer hours, positively impacting 17,000 lives worldwide.

In FY2023, Malayan Banking Berhad (Maybank) invested a total of RM42.4 million in community initiatives, up from RM37.80 million in the previous year. The group’s primary focus areas for charitable contributions remained on Education and Health, consistent with the previous year. However, Maybank also expanded its focus to include contributions towards Sports and Welfare as well in FY2023. A significant 39.5% of their contributions were allocated to Education, supporting various training programmes, including their flagship initiatives such as the Reach Independence & Sustainable Entrepreneurship (R.I.S.E Programme), eMpowering Youths Across ASEAN, Maybank Women Eco-Weavers, and the Cashville Kidz Programme. The majority of Maybank’s beneficiaries were the Community and Youth, driven largely by their financial literacy programmes. Additionally, employee volunteer hours saw a substantial increase, rising from 14,709.25 hours in FY2022 to 227,102 hours, largely due to their employee volunteerism programme, Cahaya Kasih.
