Pertubuhan Pembangunan Kendiri Wanita dan Gadis or WOMEN:girls is a cause-driven, nonprofit organization based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Founded in 2011 first as an initiative under Kakiseni, WOMEN:girls officially registered as an independent organisation in 2013. Our primary mission as an organisation is to conduct developmental and intervention programmes to allow agency for women and children to create better lives for themselves.
WOMEN:girls’ beneficiaries are typically women and children from communities that are underserved and have a lack of opportunities in their lives. We work with grassroots communities by engaging them with opportunities available beyond what their environment allows them to access; as well as working to drive policies and implementations to be championed at the governmental level. Besides that, our programmes are anchored in practical objectives that involve educating and providing relevant tools and skills to our beneficiaries, and as an effect, become role models to their peers and community. These initiatives expose the communities we work with to informed options to help them in their personal lives and careers and match them with the resources and knowledge they need to realise their potential. Among WOMEN:girls’ flagship programmes include Goal, Kejar Kerja, Young Changemakers and Ibu Nakhoda Hidup.
