SHELTER Home for Children strives to provide the quality and enjoyment of life that all children deserve – physically, emotionally and mentally – to achieve a positive outlook for their future. Our target groups are children and teenagers who are abused, abandoned, neglected or at risk and the families of the underserved communities in the urban areas. We undertake proactive actions by developing social awareness programmes and community-based projects and by being a credible voice in advocating for positive societal changes.

We provide shelter, guidance and healing for children in our Homes. Currently, we have 3 homes for children ages 4 to 18 years old. In our Homes, they receive appropriate knowledge and training skills to guide them towards self-reliance and confidence in facing their future. They are also equipped with independent living skills for life outside the Homes. We believe that all our children have the potential to go beyond the constraints of abuse and have equal opportunities in education and financial independence.

Beyond the homes, we work with the disadvantaged communities to provide education, food and family care. We equip children with literacy skills and empower their learning because we believe that education is fundamental to break the cycle of poverty that many families are trapped in. We aim to prevent or lessen the impact that dysfunctional families have on school dropouts, children being admitted into homes as alternative care and/or children receiving inadequate care that makes them vulnerable to risky behaviours and negative peer influence. To do this, we work with families to address their issues on economic strengthening activities like job employment, financial independence as well as safety and family well-being.
