Grace Community Services (GCS) was incorporated in 1990 under the Companies Act 1965 (197056-M) to better administer the fast expanding spectrum of social works founded by Dr. Henry K Pillai. These included homes for the destitute and orphaned and abused children as well as a center for men with alcohol and substance abuse. A shelter for women with unplanned pregnancies, street feeding and a food bank were later established to meet the urgent needs of the community.
Being among the pioneers in the country to answer the call of the less privileged in the community, GCS has provided shelter to more than 2,000 destitute women, nurtured over 800 children, counseled / rehabilitated more than 1,000 men with drug and substance addiction, aided more than 75 pregnant women, provided monthly food rations up to 400 families per month and handed out thousands of cooked meal packets.
GCS is heavily dependent on funds from the public, corporations and well-wishers for it’s operations in providing social works. To encourage the public to be partners, GCS applied for and was accorded tax exemption status in 2007 by Jabatan Hasil Dalam Negeri, granting tax exemption on all cash donations.
