Communications Officer
As a small but rapidly growing refuge education nonprofit organization, we are looking to hire a self-starter and dedicated communication officer who is eager to work with us to grow our educational programs for refugees in Malaysia.
The communications officer will support our communications strategy, write and disseminate various types of content, manage social media accounts, respond to inquiries from the public and media, and coordinate events.
To succeed as a communications officer, you should be able to think creatively, and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field with experience in communication or equivalent experience in a similar role is strongly desired.
Since we are a small but growing organization, expect to play different roles and be challenged.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with the team to conceptualize and implement an effective communications strategy and campaigns
Write, edit, and distribute content, including newsletters, press releases, website content, annual reports, and other marketing material that communicates the organization's activities to diverse audiences.
Manage the organization’s social media accounts
Ensure brand consistency across all channels
Maintain digital media archives including photos and videos
Respond to media inquiries, arrange interviews, and maintain a media database
Support the team in coordinating events as required
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field
Minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience in a communications role or similar
Must possess exceptional writing skills and be able to compose engaging and accurate content
Creative and innovative, always open to new and bold ideas
Strong communicator who works well independently and with a team
Superior time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to think strategically and identify ways to improve communication efforts
Must be resourceful and take initiative even when given minimal direction
Understanding of communications, public relations and marketing best practices
Understanding of social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) best practices
Knowledge of a wide range of multimedia, web and digital tools is required, including Gsuite, Canva, Mailchimp, WordPress, Airtable, and Trello.
