Khalil Majeed

Khalil Majeed, a dedicated co-founder and project director at Faqcheck, boasts a career spanning nearly a decade that encompasses an array of roles, from reporting and investigative journalism, to VR production. Most notably, he has worked as an investigative producer for prestigious newsrooms, including VICE, The Globe, Mail and Al-Jazeera English.

As an investigative journalist, Khalil has delved into a wide range of critical issues, shedding light on subjects like migrant abuse and conducting probing interviews with prominent figures like Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

At Faqcheck, in partnership with his business partner, Chan Tau Chou, he leads efforts in developing his organisation’s national university collaborative platform, empowering students, educators and universities to combat disinformation at scale. Khalil is also building Faqcheck’s business arm, with a vision to expand the company and establish a sustainable fact-checking brand.

Addtionally, Khalil is a co-founder of JomCheck, an alliance comprising of fact-checking organisations, news outlets, and academic institutions. This coalition has played a pivotal role in dismantling disinformation, particularly during elections, thereby upholding the integrity of the democratic process.

Khalil’s role within Faqcheck extends well beyond developing the organisation itself. He has been a mentor, sharing invaluable expertise with numerous journalists and activists, nurturing their skills in the domains of fact-checking and investigative reporting. Furthermore, he has played a pivotal role in Faqcheck’s commitment to media literacy by spearheading the development of a syllabus tailored for use in universities and newsrooms in Cambodia.

Information is a valuable yet potentially hazardous resource in our daily lives. Making an impact, for me, centers on granting individuals the freedom to effectively engage with and make decisions based on the information available to them. This involves providing them with the essential tools and knowledge needed to make informed choices that not only benefit themselves but also have a positive impact on society as a whole.
