Fara Rom is a Digital Communications Executive and a steadfast advocate for Sexual Reproductive Health & Rights (SRHR) and Sustainable Development in Malaysia.
Her journey in SRHR began in 2016 when she volunteered for the Federation of Reproductive Health Association Malaysia (FRHAM), and she has remained committed ever since. She served as the SheDecides 25×25 Young Leader, representing Malaysia for the Generation Equality Forum (2020-2021). Additionally, she worked with the Asian-Pacific Resource & Research Center for Women (ARROW) as the Information and Communications Officer for 3.5 years.
Recognizing the pressing need for improved accessibility to rights-based and non-judgmental information on SRHR, especially in the online realm, Fara Rom established the For Youth Initiative Kuala Lumpur (FYIKL) in 2019. This platform is dedicated to advocating for SRHR among youths. FYIKL is devoted to exploring various mediums and channels to raise awareness and destigmatize SRHR issues in Malaysia, with a mission to empower one youth at a time. Currently, Fara Rom serves as the Vice President at the Reproductive Rights Advocacy Alliance Malaysia (RRAAM).
From my perspective, ‘making an impact’ simply involves doing what you can and sharing what you have with those affected by inequality and injustices. ‘Impact work’ should acknowledge the root causes of the injustices that exist and actively strive to dismantle them for it to be meaningful and transformative.
